DSNY BetterBin Design Competition: 2nd Place
BetterBin was an international design competition aimed at reimagining the iconic New York City green wire-mesh waste bin. Out of hundreds of global submissions, our design was selected as one of three finalists to be prototyped and tested on the streets of NYC.
While our concept garnered significant positive press and became a crowd favorite within the design community, it ultimately wasn’t chosen. Despite this, the project remains one of my most rewarding endeavors and a professional achievement I’m incredibly proud of, especially as a native New Yorker.
The original green, wire-mesh basket was an affordable and easy to service design, that remained largely unchanged since the 1930s. While iconic to the streets of New York, the wire basket was in need of a redesign to better address the current and future waste needs of the City.
